I stubbed it. It hurt like heck.
Weeks went by. I saw it swelling, watched the nail darken. Now it’s holding on for dear life. Google says it will eventually “de-part” after a few months! Another will grow there after many more months.
Here’s the treatment for a swollen toe and half-dead nail:
- Soak for 10 min. in cold water
- Dry and clean
- Apply antibiotic cream
- bandage loosely
- keep covered
Sounds easy, right? The problem is I have major balance issues even with my two feet on the ground. if I lift one foot, I wobble back and forth and hop around! No more Tree Pose for me…

The next problem: I’m allergic to latex!!!! My skin sticks to it hard and fast and is the very devil to separate when I remove a bandage. The skin under my toes seems now to be paper-thin, so even using vaseline as I peel it off, there’s a lot of pain. .

So I need to wrap the toe in that stretchy material hospitals use, and if wrapped loosely, it falls right off. And BTW, have you ever tried cutting that tape with an ordinary pair of scissors? Uh-uh.

Did I mention it’s getting cold out? Sandals, which would allow my toe to breathe, must give way to shoes. And what shoes, dear reader, fit over a swollen toe dressed up in all that finery?

So that’s my plaint of the day. Having finally gotten through the ritual this morning, I’m showered and dressed, finishing my oatmeal and ready for the day!
I can’t speak for my big toe.
Ouch!

Oh, my, that’s horrible. My husband lost the tip of his big toe in an injury while in high school. He learned to balance over the years, but it is weird without a big toe. I hope your toe heals soon. On a side note…my ugly shoes might just be what you need…;-) They’re free if they’d fit you! https://www.quaintrevival.com/the-ugly-shoes-i-wear/

I checked out the shoes … the L & R certainly add the design element needed. Unfortunately, your foot looks like a narrower version of feet in general, whereas mine are extra, extra wide! But thanks for the offer!

And I’m sorry to hear about your husband’s toe. It’s amazing how the brain adjusts … I used to fall when the numbness and pain got worse, but my brain, combined with some use of reasonable intelligence, has resulted in almost no falls, knock wood!!!

The toe and the shoe he kept to show what happened is a conversation starter. 😉 He’s good with it, has no choice. I’m glad to hear you’ve not had any falls!! Way to go – and I hope you continue to heal, and fast before the winter settles in!!
